I'm Kent Anderson, an independent software consultant based in the Phoenix, Arizona area. I build the systems that connect hardware to the cloud — embedded firmware, wearables, mobile apps, and the backend APIs that tie them together. I'm currently engaged with Huml Health as a contract engineer, and taking on additional part-time work: short-term projects or ongoing engagements.

Full history in the timeline below.
I love building software that bridges the physical and digital worlds — from hardware integration and embedded firmware to mobile companion apps and the backend APIs that tie it all together. I've been writing software for 30 years across a wide range of domains, and I now run my own consultancy, LKA Technology, providing senior engineering services to teams that need experienced help without a full-time hire.
Earlier in my career I spent eight years at Performance Software developing embedded avionics display software to DO-178 and DO-330 airworthiness standards — work that instilled the discipline safety-critical development demands.
What makes my background unusual is the breadth: equally comfortable close to the hardware, building a companion app in Swift or Kotlin, or designing the backend API that ties it together. For companies building connected hardware with companion applications, that combination is hard to find in one person.
Concept through production release, across embedded, mobile, backend, and enterprise systems.
BLE, wearables, and the companion mobile apps that talk to them.
Agile delivery practices, mentoring, and hands-on guidance for growing teams.
Diagnosing and stabilizing existing systems: bug elimination, performance work, modernization.
Independent assessment of system design, plus constructive review that raises code quality.
Test strategy and automated test development, informed by safety-critical, formally qualified test systems.
My current client engagement is with Huml Health, where I previously served as Principal Software Engineer and Engineering Lead — work spanning smart wearable integration with Wear OS, native and React Native mobile development for iOS and Android, and backend REST API development in a medical IoT context focused on addiction recovery and behavioral health.
I returned in June 2026 as a Senior Software Engineering Consultant, continuing that platform development on a contract basis — while opening capacity for additional part-time client work: short-term projects or ongoing engagements, for teams building connected hardware, wearables, or mobile and backend systems.
Continuing platform development as a contract engineer, following my prior role as Principal Software Engineer and Engineering Lead.
Independent software engineering consultancy providing senior-level services to teams that need experienced help without a full-time hire.
Full-stack engineer for a behavioral-health wearable platform: BLE and SDK hardware integration, Wear OS apps, React Native mobile, and TypeScript backend services on Postgres and MongoDB. Led a development team of three.
Lead designer of a REST API framework standardizing practices across 30+ engineers; led iOS/Android feature development and a connected-home IoT initiative in the Property & Casualty division.
Taught Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming (Java); progressed to Instructor Development Leader, coaching a remote teaching team.
Senior engineer and project lead at a defense and aerospace software firm, leading mixed remote teams of up to 15 across avionics, middleware, and industrial software. Architected a ground-up replacement of a 20-year-old flight navigation database system for Rockwell Collins — 50% faster processing, tested to DO-330 Tool Qualification Level 4/5 with 16,000+ automated tests. Also built a RESTful API and SDK for GE Energy's System 1 industrial monitoring platform. Awards: MVP (2010), Project Lead of the Year (2011), Leadership Excellence (2016).
Independently designed, developed, and shipped two iOS games — TreeDudes Launch and Toggalight — with real-time physics simulation, from concept through App Store release. Source on GitHub.
Co-architected a browser-based online ordering system for professional auto parts installers, plus internal retail operations applications.
Telecommunications and network management software with a focus on hardware control and device communication protocols — SNMP-based switch provisioning, TL-1 interfaces, and a video-conferencing scheduling system for a remote-learning network.
Built a business and project-management application (MS Access, MFC, C++) for a Phoenix-area pool company.
Built a payment transaction routing system translating and routing data between physical payment terminals and payment networks.
Developed enterprise financial applications for payroll, accounting, and student billing, including an early document scanning and retrieval system for Accounts Payable.
Open to short-term projects and ongoing part-time engagements — connected hardware, wearables, mobile apps, or the backend that ties them together.
